William H. Macy’s Daughter Caused Chicken Panic

Veteran actor William H. Macy dreads checking in on the chickens in his back yard – because he fears the day he has to tell his young daughters they’ve lost one of the pets to “critters.”

The actor and his wife Felicity Huffman keep six hens at their California home, and their two kids, Sofia, 10, and Georgia, eight, enjoy collecting their eggs every morning.  But Macy was sent into a panic one day when he could only spot five chickens in his custom-made coup – and frantically tried to come up with an explanation for his little girls.  He says,

“I built a killer chicken coup and we get about four eggs a day. The girls gather the eggs. But we have a lot of critters there and… once, I went in in the morning and there’s five chickens there and I have to tell Georgia, my daughter, ‘We lost a chicken, I don’t know how this critter got in.'”

But he was breathing a sigh of relief after finding the hen in the most unexpected place.  Macy explains,

“I walk into her room, and the chicken’s in her bed, with the blanket pulled up around her, sound asleep.”

William H. Macy Used To Babysit Some Hollywood Stars

Actor William H. Macy has an odd link to his co-stars in new TV comedy series Shameless – he once babysat them for their parents.

The Fargo star recalls looking after Joan Cusack and Jeremy Piven when they were kids in Chicago, Illinois.
The actor befriended Byrne Piven and Dick Cusack, who were fellow regulars in the Chicago theatre scene, where he co-founded the St. Nicholas Theater Company with playwright and pal David Mamet – and he still remembers babysitting their kids Jeremy and Joan.

He tells USA Today newspaper,

“Jeremy was just a little kid,” when he offered to babysit “because I needed the work”.

And he admits that he and actress Cusack enjoyed their racy scenes in Shameless, even though her father would have been far from happy.  Macy adds,

“That would have been an interesting conversation.”

Macy also has another theatrical link to Piven – he replaced the star at short notice in Speed-The-Plow on Broadway after Piven fell ill with mercury poisoning.

I love to read who knew how and how back in the day before they were stars.  I wonder if Macy had any babysitting tactics?…

But I’m sure he definitely has some dad tactics, as he’s married to Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman, and has two daughters together – Sofia (10) and Georgia (8).

When asked if his kids will follow in the footsteps of their parents? He says,

“It’s OK with me. This has been a great business for my wife and me,” he says, and if they want to do it, he will support them “completely.”
