Celebrity Mom Kate Winslet & Her Family Escape Deadly Fire

A fire blazed at Sir Richard Branson’s idyllic Caribbean home in Necker Island of the British Virgin Islands on Monday (August 22) – the same home that Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey held their wedding last month.

The fire was reportedly sparked by a lightning strike caused by Hurricane Irene as it blazed a trail of destruction through the Caribbean late Sunday (August 21) into early Monday (August 22). About 20 guests were staying at the tycoon’s eight bedroom Great House. Sir Richard Branson and his family, including his 90-year-old mother, Eve, were forced to flee as well as guest and Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet along with her family as well.

Richard said, “We had a really bad tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. My son Sam rushed to the house and helped get everyone out. Kate Winslet, her boyfriend, and her family were there as well as Holly and some of her friends. Many thanks to Kate for helping to carry my 90-year-old mom out of the main house to safety. I’m sure she was wondering when a director was going to shout ‘CUT!'”

Vanessa Minnillo Learned Many Things From Marrying Nick Lachey

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo’s wedding aired during a TLC special Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding on Saturday (July 30). And now that two have tied the knot, Vanessa is opening up about all the she learned by marrying the former 98 degrees singer.

Minnillo shared her top ten wedding planning tips on Twitter:

1. Try on different styles of dresses. Even if you know what you want, it may surprise you. Go for it all and be girly! Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

2. I love a little splash of color! I had a beautiful bouquet, BUT I didn’t put my matron of honor in a fuchsia dress.

3. Listen to your groom and have elements of what he wants in the wedding. After all, it’s both of your day. Nick had great suggestions.

4. A welcome bag with personalized goodies is always nice! We did beach towels with [our guests’] names embroidered and [included] all the beach essentials.

5. Make sure to take time before the wedding and spend it with your fiance. A night with a glass of wine, or a weekend away! Quality time.

6. To save money: Use the venue’s place settings and glassware, but we brought in our personalized linens and chargers for a more custom feel.

7. If you can, have multiple photographers. We loved Yitzhak Dalal, and he brought two other [photographers] with him. There’s always more than one angle you’ll want!

8. Consider weather when planning an outdoor ceremony. The ONE thing I regret is we didn’t have fans or air-conditioning at the ceremony.

9. Do something special for your fiance before the ceremony — [give them] a gift, and/or a hand-written card. Let them know how you feel and that you love them!

10. HAVE FUN! Once it’s the day of, try your hardest not to let ANYTHING get in the way. You’ll regret it if you obsess about small stuff!

Nick Lachey Opens Up About Giving A Reality TV Wedding A Second Go-Round

Nick Lachey is surprisingly choosing to get married on reality television for the second time. And despite it essentially being the cause of his first marriage’s demise (with Jessica Simpson), he’s opening up about why he made the decision to go back – this time with fiancee Vanessa Minnillo.

“We kind of wrestled with that for a while, for obvious reasons,” Lachey told reporters Saturday during his bachelor party at TAO in Las Vegas. “Having done reality TV in the past, I didn’t necessarily want to jump right back into it without having thought it through to great length, and we did.”

The main reason Lachey chose to return to the format was because the cameras won’t be around for long.

“It’s a one-off special; a chance to kind of have a great experience and a great moment in our lives documented on TV, and also for us, to have a great wedding video at the end of it,” Lachey says of their TLC wedding special.

“I would never want to put ourselves through a reality show again,” Lachey confirmed. “This is a different process: There’s a beginning, an end, and then it’s over, it’s done.”

Do you think Jessica Simpson will make a return to reality television as well?
