Hot New DVD Release: ‘Hoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil’

New on DVD this week is ‘Hoodwinked Too! Hood VS. Evil, the zany sequel to the hit animated film ‘Hoodwinked‘.   The cast of voices in this sequel is top notch – Hayden Panettiere replaces Anne Hathaway as the voice of Red, but Glenn Close reprises her role as Granny Puckett, and Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement) is back as the clueless-as-ever Big Bad Wolf.

The good… the bad… the Twitchy.  HOODWINKED TOO! HOOD VS. EVIL finds our heroine, Red (Hayden Panettiere), training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood.  But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from NickyFlippers (David Ogden Stiers), the head of the super secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka the HEA.  A wicked witch (Joan Cusack) has abducted two innocent children, Hansel (Bill Hader) and Gretel (Amy Poehler), and Nicky needs the whole Hoodwinked gang – Red, Granny (Glenn Close), the ever-clueless Wolf (Patrick Warburton) and his over-caffeinated little partner, Twitchy (Cory Edwards) – for the search and rescue mission.

There is plenty of action and the movie is FAST paced, so you won’t find your attention wandering and it features some creative twists that you might not see coming.  It also manages to sneak in a lot of that “over their heads” adult humor that films like Shrek are famous for.

The movie, which released yesterday (August 16th), is rated PG and is available on:

  • 3D BLU-RAY 4-pack (which includes 3D BLU-RAY, BLU-RAY, DVD, and a digital copy, as well)
  • BLU-RAY & DVD combo pack
  • DVD

William H. Macy Used To Babysit Some Hollywood Stars

Actor William H. Macy has an odd link to his co-stars in new TV comedy series Shameless – he once babysat them for their parents.

The Fargo star recalls looking after Joan Cusack and Jeremy Piven when they were kids in Chicago, Illinois.
The actor befriended Byrne Piven and Dick Cusack, who were fellow regulars in the Chicago theatre scene, where he co-founded the St. Nicholas Theater Company with playwright and pal David Mamet – and he still remembers babysitting their kids Jeremy and Joan.

He tells USA Today newspaper,

“Jeremy was just a little kid,” when he offered to babysit “because I needed the work”.

And he admits that he and actress Cusack enjoyed their racy scenes in Shameless, even though her father would have been far from happy.  Macy adds,

“That would have been an interesting conversation.”

Macy also has another theatrical link to Piven – he replaced the star at short notice in Speed-The-Plow on Broadway after Piven fell ill with mercury poisoning.

I love to read who knew how and how back in the day before they were stars.  I wonder if Macy had any babysitting tactics?…

But I’m sure he definitely has some dad tactics, as he’s married to Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman, and has two daughters together – Sofia (10) and Georgia (8).

When asked if his kids will follow in the footsteps of their parents? He says,

“It’s OK with me. This has been a great business for my wife and me,” he says, and if they want to do it, he will support them “completely.”
