Gwyneth Paltrow Lets Her Daughter Skip School For A Day Of Bonding

Gwyneth Paltrow opened up to Good Housekeeping magazine about learning some valuable lessons in parenting.  She explained the chaos that taking her daughter of out school for the day caused.

“I’ll probably get kicked out of our school for admitting this, but I let Apple stay home yesterday. I just needed to be with her.”

“We went out to lunch, we went to the beauty salon, we were together.”

Which was terrific and fine, until Apple blabbed it to her younger brother Moses! She assured him that mom would let him have a turn, too:

“Oh, don’t worry, Moses. Tomorrow is your day to stay home from school.”

Gwyneth explained that it wasn’t going to be that way and Moses melted down:

“I was like, ‘Here we go,’.  ‘Apple, couldn’t you have just asked me first? I know you’re trying to make your brother feel better, but…oh, Apple!’”

“I upset her. Apple said, ‘I’m sorry’ and burst into tears. I didn’t mean to react that way. Sometimes you really just disappoint yourself as a parent”

Gwyneth shared the lesson she learned:

“Motherhood has taught me mindfulness. If you just parent on instinct, you’ll screw your kid up for life. You have to be so mindful.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Her Motherly Advice For Saving Time

Gwyneth Paltrow took to her “GOOP” website this week to share some time-saving tips that have helped her to stay organized and on top of things. The mother of two shared:

“I cook a lot, especially on the weekends, so I like to plan a rough menu for the whole weekend and get the food in on Friday. Obviously stores and websites that deliver make this a dream. In London, I use Ocado. Also James Knight, my favorite fishmonger, will deliver. Having all of the ingredients means I’m prepared even when I don’t think I am.”

Setting out the kids’ clothes and supplies the night before:

“I always lay the kids uniforms and school things out the night before once they are asleep. When it’s quiet, I can check the “kid list” for show and [go through] items to bring in, consent forms, ballet kit, etc, so that the morning is less of a scramble.”

She likes to multi-task while on the road:

“The school run is a great time to return calls (in whichever direction that the kids are not in the car) so don’t forget your hands-free device.”

What things do you find help you save time with your munchkins?

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Postpartum Depression

Gwyneth Paltrow opens up about postpartum depression in an interview with the new issue of Good Housekeeping magazine.  The “Country Strong” actress shares that after the birth of her second child, son Moses, she wasn’t feeling the same joyful feelings she had after giving birth to daughter Apple:

I felt like a zombie. I couldn’t access my heart. I couldn’t access my emotions. I couldn’t connect. It was terrible, it was the exact opposite of what had happened when Apple was born. With her, I was on cloud nine. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t the same. I just thought it meant I was a terrible mother and a terrible person.”

She says that husband Chris Martin was the first to tell her that he thought something was “off” and helped her face what she was really going through:

“I thought postpartum depression meant you were sobbing every single day and incapable of looking after a child,” she explains. “But there are different shades of it and depths of it, which is why I think it’s so important for women to talk about it. It was a trying time. I felt like a failure.”

It’s so nice to see so many celebrity moms being honest and open about suffering from this condition.  It’s common, but it used to be such a “taboo” to admit it.

Gwyneth Paltrow Rather Be Home With Her Kids

Gwyneth Paltrow likes to be home with her kids, Apple (6) and Moses (4) - who always come first – rather than working.

“I’ve always been home and I want to raise my kids myself and you can’t be starring in three movies a year, you know it just doesn’t work,” she said.

While shooting her most recent film Country Strong, Paltrow moved her family to Nashville for the five-week shoot.

“I went for a week by myself, ’cause I thought there’s no way I can get into this character with my toddlers running around. You come home from playing drunk and sobbing and you’re like, ‘Hey, let’s make a painting!’ They’re just two different worlds,” she said.

Blythe Danner Impressed With Gwyenth Paltrow’s Parenting Skills

Actress Blythe Danner has heaped praise on her daughter Gwyneth Paltrow’s parenting skills, insisting she’s a much better mom than she was.

The Meet The Parents star tells WENN her daughter is an “extraordinary” mother with two “very wise little ones”.
She says,

“She’s a much more patient mother than I was. When she had children she was just completely devoted to that and listens to them and talks to them.

“They never have temper tantrums because she knows how to sweep them aside and talk to them and they listen. She’s very rational and I just admire it. I just don’t know how she does it really. It just puts me to shame that I wasn’t better at it.

“They’re very wise little ones. I’ve been trying to sell an apartment that I have in California and little Moses, who was three at the time, said, ‘Lalo, do you have three houses?’ He was thinking of the New York apartment and I was building a little solar thermal house because I’ve been involved with the environment longer than Gwyneth’s alive, and I said, ‘Well, I guess I do Mosey,’ and he said, ‘I know you don’t need three houses, do you Lalo?’ It was just wild!”
