“We talk about domestic violence and what that means. Although the concept is somewhat foreign to them, they’re starting to understand that this happens to families in our country and all throughout the world.”
Reese shared that her kids understand it in part because of the Chris Brown and Rihanna situation:
“My daughter knows what happened. My son knows as well. We talk about what is abuse. I think it’s important to talk to our daughters – and our sons – in order to educate them at an early age about what’s appropriate and what is absolutely not acceptable.”
Reese Witherspoon shared that she doesn’t allow her children Ava, 12, and Deacon, 8, to use social networks. The ‘This Means War’ actress is very protective and and does not want personal information revealed on the internet.
“When you have kids, you get very protective. I think about what the internet is and the repercussions of that expanse of people having your personal information. I get very protective of my own kids in that capacity. They’re not on any of it.”
Reesealso shared that she has a good relationship with her kids, despite being so strict:
“I actually have a great relationship with my daughter, and it’s exciting to see her grow up. She’s a wonderful young lady.”
Today’s celebrity birthday girl is Ava Phillippe, daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe (and big sister to Deacon). She is celebrating her 11th birthday today!
One of my favorite parenting quotes that Reese gave was about Ava keeping her “grounded”:
“We went to see Carrie Underwood in concert and Ava said, ‘Mom I really appreciate you taking me to the concert, but will you please not embarrass me in front of Carrie Underwood by singing because she’s a real singer and you’re just, like a movie singer.’ ”
Happy Birthday Ava! Hope your day is fantastic! Two more years til the teen years…..
