Celebrity mom Angelina Jolie was very excited to play the role of Maleficent and she reveals that she spend a lot of time trying to perfect everything from her voice to her mannerisms.  The mom of six often used her kids as inspiration and to gauge how the character was developing.  She shared with Entertainment Weekly, “I loved being Maleficent. I was quite sad to put my staff down and put my horns away because somehow, she just lives in a different world.  But I did have to take my staff home to practice walking with it in my cloak, and then I would go outside and scream at the bushes to expand my voice and play with my voice. So, mom was a bit nutso for a period.”

Vivienne Was The Only Kid Not Afraid Of Her Maleficent Costume

The 86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals B3

Angelina Jolie’s new movie “Maleficent” is due out May 30th and she’s opening up about her kids’ cameos in the movie and so much more!  Angelina gets candid about scaring Pax and admits that she’s much more fun at home than in public.

On putting the kids in her movies & Brad’s movies: “We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That’s not our goal for Brad and I at all. I think we would both prefer that they didn’t become actors.”

Casting Vivienne as a young Aurora: “She was 4 at the time, and other 3- and 4-year-old [actors] really wouldn’t come near me. Big kids thought I was cool—but little kids really didn’t like me. So in order to have a child that wants to play with [Maleficent]…it had to be a child that really liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv.”

Her brother gets some credit for her taking on the role: “She was just my favorite as a little girl. I was terrified of her, but I was really drawn to her. I loved her. There were some discussions about it before I got the part, and I got a phone call from my brother, who said, ‘You’ve got to get your name on the list for this.’”

The other kids were scared of her: “When Pax saw me for the first time, he ran away and got upset — and I thought he was kidding, so I was pretending to chase him until I actually found him crying. I had to take off pieces [of the makeup] in front of him to show him it was all fake and not freak out so much.”

Pax & Zahara did cameos, too: “I had to walk by them being very mean. Of course, I wanted to stop and wink at them.”

On her home life:  “Outside my home I can be somewhat serious,” she admits. But with her family, “We laugh and we play, and I’m light again, and I’m a kid again, and I’m loving and soft again because they’ve brought that back in my life.”
