Rep: Amy Winehouse Was Not Adopting

After Amy Winehouse’s untimely passing, details of her life have begun to seep through the cracks including a claim that Winehouse was preparing to adopt a 10-year-old girl. But according to her rep, this simply is not true.

A rep for the late singer tells Us Weekly “she was not in the process of legally adopting anyone.”

“Amy was already my mother,” Dannika Augustine, 10, told British paper The Daily Mirror. “I would call her Mum. And she would call me her daughter.”

“Amy isn’t around to say what she meant and you can’t go after this poor girl,” adds an insider close to the star. “But there were definitely no official adoption plans.”

UPDATED: Amy Winehouse Planned To Adopt 10-Year-Old Girl

UPDATE: Amy’s rep says this story is completely untrue.

Before Amy Winehouse’s untimely demise last Saturday (July 23), the singer was said to have been moving forward with the adoption of a 10-year-old girl.

“Amy was already my mother,” Dannika Augustine, 10, told British paper The Daily Mirror. Winehouse met little Dannika during a 2009 trip to St. Lucia.

“I would call her Mum,” Dannika said, “And she would call me her daughter. She took care of me, and we had fun together. I loved her, and she loved me.”

Despite Amy’s many addictions, Dannika’s family was all for the adoption. “Amy loved Dannika with all her heart,” Dannika’s grandmother Marjorie Lambert told the Mirror. “I don’t know why Amy took to Dannika above all the other children on the island, but from the moment they met, they were inseparable. They would spend all day playing, horse-riding and walking up and down the beach hand in hand.”

“I thanked Amy for taking care of my daughter, and she said, ‘Dannika is taking care of me. I couldn’t live without her,’ ” Dannika’s parent Vid Augustine said. “I knew [Winehouse] could give my daughter a wonderful life.”
