Nicole Richie Covers ‘Flare,’ Talks Family and Fame

Nicole Richie has matured drastically over the last few years, and since becoming a mom the one-time late-night party girl, favors waking at early dawn to squeeze in some alone time.

“I wake up at 5:30 in the morning, every morning, so I can be alone,” admits the Fashion Star mentor, who graces the cover of the April issue of Flare magazine. “I don’t have anywhere to be, but mentally, I like to go downstairs and drink my coffee … I’m telling you, it changes my entire day.”

And while Richie has certainly cleaned up her act, she has a problem with the notion that celebrities should serve as role models.

“I was just talking to a friend of mine who has two little girls about a certain singer whose name I won’t mention,” she explains. “He was really upset, saying she wasn’t a good role model for his kids. But here’s the thing: that girl is 20-something, so she shouldn’t be a role model to your little girls. She’s human, and it’s unrealistic to put people on a pedestal and expect that they’re not going to make mistakes.”

As for her own kids, Nicole and Joel Madden want Harlow and Sparrow to have as normal a childhood as possible.

“[Harlow] has no idea that she has two [fashion] lines named after her,” she reveals. “I try and let her be a kid.”

Kevin Federline, Britney Spears Agree Their Sons Will Work At McDonalds

Don’t expect to see Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s boys, Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5, enterting the entertainment industry anytime soon!

“I’ll have them working at Micky D’s,” the Excess Baggage reality star tells Australia’s Herald Sun about keeping his boys grounded. “That’s how we had to do it! I worked at a car wash. I worked at a pizza place. Things like that made me.”

“I can be in this business now and I’m still the same person I am back then, because I know what I want out of life and how to treat people,” Kevin adds.

And Britney agrees!

“Sean and Jayden have missed out on so much of that with me and their mom being so busy all the time,” he says. “Now we’ve both agreed that this is it, they are going to be at school and learn what it’s like to be part of society as normal kids.”
