Penelope Cruz Agrees That All Motherhood Cliches Are True

Penelope Cruz, who gave birth to her son Leo in January, so far has experienced beautiful things being a mom.

“Everybody tells you things change. And then all those cliches, all those things you hear about having a baby and motherhood — all of them are true,” Penelope said.

“And all of them are the most beautiful things you will ever experience. So yes, your priorities change. It’s from the second you see that little face, your life has changed forever.”

The actress found out she was pregnant shortly before starting to film Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides, which meant she needed to share the exciting news first with director Rob Marshall and star Johnny Depp.

“I found out I was pregnant and I had to tell Johnny and Rob. First for safety, second for honesty,” she said.

“It made for a very interesting shoot — especially it being an action movie. There were a few things I had been in training for before filming, before I knew I was pregnant, in rehearsals that had to be changed.

“And my outfits kept, well, evolving. I wasn’t able to do any of the more dangerous shots, obviously. But the sword fights became more like choreography, more like dance. But everything was very safe and I felt very protected. I couldn’t have done it any other way.”

Penelope Cruz & Javier Bardem Name Their Son Leo

Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have finally chosen a name for their son – Leo – who they welcomed on January 22.

A friend of the couple, Spanish film director Santiago Segura, commented on the birth of their son to a group of pesty reporters.

“I know what you want and you don’t understand why they don’t come running to show off the baby and say, ‘Look, here’s Leo.’ ”

Reporters were unsure if that was the name of the baby, so they questioned the director if the baby’s name was actually Leo.  He replied,

“Yeah, Leo. I think so. That’s what I think I heard. But they haven’t said anything.”

But that little slip up from a dear friend I don’t think will get Javier down.  The actor appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and when asked how Penelope and the baby are doing, he said,

“Everything is going perfectly.”

So happy for them!

Javier Bardem: "I Am Very Happy"

Javier Bardem spoke publicly for the first time since it was reported that he and Penelope Cruz were expecting. During a press conference in Rome for Eat Pray Love, the actor drops the official word, straight from the horse’s mouth:

“Yes, it’s true,” Bardem, 41, told reporters, according to Access Hollywood. “I am very happy.”

Bardem wouldn’t reveal whether their baby-to-be will be a boy or girl. And what about fatherly words of wisdom? “It is a little too soon for me to be giving advice,” he quipped. “I don’t know yet, but I will found out soon.”

I can think of two things here, really…1) he doesn’t really EVER have to address the media and talk about this if he and Penelope choose not to, so why the big deal about it taking “so long” for him to speak? 2) I would like to think he would be very happy…he’s at least going to say it publicly, right?

At any rate, it’s going to be great for them to have a child, it’s really the best thing in the world and you don’t truly understand until the day comes when you hold that little peanut. This also can’t be bad for Javier’s career, I would think.
