Bryce Dallas Howard hit the red carpet this week for the premiere of “Call Me Crazy”, a short film about a young law student dealing with a schizophrenia diagnosis. Bryce shared that mental illness has a place close to her heart because she suffered from post partum depression after the birth of her son, Theo, 5.
Bryce shared, “It went untreated for eighteen months because I was just so ashamed and frightened. I didn’t know what it meant and didn’t know what happened to me. Getting to have an opportunity to tell a story that is about mental illness and how it affects one’s self and one’s community was really something that really meant a lot to me.”
Bryce gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Beatrice, last year. She says that this time around her post-birth experience was much different. “I had family around me constantly, I had friends around me constantly, professionals supporting me through that, and I feel really grateful. I couldn’t have done it otherwise. You can’t raise kids alone, you can’t heal alone. — you really need a community.”
