Ryan Phillippe refuses to let his children be cared for by nannies, because he’s convinced they’d grow up to be arrogant and spoiled.
The actor has two children with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon – daughter Ava, 11, and seven-year-old son, Deacon. Phillippe insists he has a good relationship with the actress, and they are both keen to ensure their kids have a normal upbringing despite their famous parents. Asked if he’s concerned about his children growing up in a wealthy environment, the actor tells Britain’s Metro newspaper,
“Very. Both Reese and I are, because of how we grew up. We grew up very humbly. I think that is our foundation and then you try to impart that to your children who are growing up with privilege.
“I want my kids to grow up and be people who I would want to hang out with, who are conscientious and care about the rest of the world and realize how lucky they are. That’s one of your jobs as a parent.
“I imagine it would be more difficult if we weren’t as hands on as we are, if we allowed them to be raised by nannies. I think then they would become a-holes.”
