Elton John And David Furnish Talk Hand-Me-Downs And Bonding With Zachary

Sir Elton John and David Furnish opened up to Sunday Times Magazine about bonding with their newborn son, Zachary, hand-me-downs, and fatherhood.

David shared that just because they have wealth, doesn’t mean they’re lavishing Zachary with expensive clothing, etc.:

All you need is a couple of babygros [onesies] and a lot of muslin [blankets]. “Friends are being really great, giving us hand-me-down stuff. We don’t want him to grow up with a sense of entitlement.”

David explained that they are using skin-to-skin contact to make those essential bonds with their baby boy:

“We did skin-to-skin contact, took our shirts off and held him so that we could make that bond. “They say it’s really good for the baby, and for us.”

Elton opened up about his own childhood with a “tough” father:

“You know, my father never came to hear me play. Not ever.  He was a tough and unemotional man. Hard. In the RAF (Royal Air Force). He was dismissive, disappointed, and finally absent. I just wanted him to acknowledge what I’d done. But he never did.”

How sad.  Hopefully his past will just fuel his desire to be a different kind of father for his own son.
