Ex-Coronation Street stars Jenny Platt and Rupert Hill have welcomed a daughter. The couple welcomed Matilda, weighing in at 7lb 10oz, on Sunday.
The couple played lovers Violet Wilson and Jamie Baldwin in the soap.
A friend told The Sun newspaper, “Rupert and Jenny are absolutely thrilled. They couldn’t be happier with their bouncing baby girl.”
The source added, “The baby was two weeks overdue and they were so pleased to finally meet her. Rupert is over the moon and both mother and baby are doing well.”
Rupert, 31, announced the news on Twitter earlier this week, telling fans, “Today I am a father.”
In another update posted yesterday, he added, “My daughter is called Matilda. I wish I could show you a pic, but these walls have eyes. Jen is fine too.”
Jenny, 30, and Rupert’s characters Violet and Jamie had a baby together in the ITV soap, which she gave birth to on New Years’ Day 2007 as part of an ectopic pregnancy storyline.
At the time Jenny commented on the way she handled the delicate storyline off-screen saying, “Obviously, I wanted to find out about it. Violet actually doesn’t know anything about it – she just wakes up in the hospital and is told about it, so I kind of didn’t need it. It wasn’t like I got diagnosed and had to live with it for a while. By the time I’ve woken up everything’s gone. But, just for my own interest, I did, I looked into it and found out a bit about it. I looked at the NHS site to find out what the symptoms would be, and how common it is, all that kind of stuff.”
