i also think Joshua Wentz would have been better …Bronx Wentz, Brooklyn Beckham…i forsee a California, New York etc

  2. wowfactor says

The child of Gwen Stefani was named after a famous politician in South africa called Jacob Zuma who is the president of the ANC movement the ruling party in SA….hahahahahah , it is an African name, this Bronx stuff, Cruz Beckham, Harlow Winter is wierd business i think these kids will change their named later

  3. Dnice says

I like Bronx – but it’s like you have Kingston and Brookyn and it’s like they said what’s a cool ass city name we can have people talking about…The unusual name deal has definitely become a celebrity trend. Mowgli just makes me think of the jungle book and it just doesn’t fit. I mean they can call their kid Shakey Boom Boom if they want, but I would be interested to find out what drew them to this particular moniker.

  4. jubaloo says

Congrats to Pete and Ashlee !!! Whatever they would have called the baby would have been wrong in someone elses eyes – they have a healthy baby and they are happy who cares what the child is called his health is way more important than his name !!!!

  5. Niloofar says

    BETH, YEAH….!!!!!

TAM, SO HE THINKS CHILDISH, NOT JUST PETE,ASH
    TOO!!!!
I CERTAINLY SAY THAT THEY WILL BE CONTRITE , AFTER
    SOMETIMES!!

  6. Mowgli?!?! Usually toddlers love to name their teddies like that! :-) says

I agree with most of you. There is something going on about names between celebs. They are kind of desperate to find the most weird name. I think some times is better to find the balance and stop trying to be so cool. There is a kid behind those names who will maybe hate their names in the future. Unique names YES, stupid names NO. Enough is enough I think

  7. 2teens says

I like both of the names, I just think Bronx sounds too difficult with Wentz. I think Mowgli Wentz sounds better. And pairing two unusual names is not good either. So basically I like Bronx and I like Mowgli… but not together.
Same with Zuma Nesta Rock, just too many odd names together. Throwing in a normal middle name to lighten things up is so much better.

  8. Daisy says

…I seem to be the only one that likes this name. I was a bit unsure about it at first, but its grown on me, like Zuma’s name. And #6 I like the name Harlow, i don’t think thats weird at all – its just different. Anyway, congratulations to the Simpson-Wentz family (:

  9. says

Speaking of the name Ryan I love my nephews name Ryan Myles .
(and my other nephew is Joshua,)
To me those are beautiful names.

  10. anonymous says

Celebrities think they’re special, so many of them give their children names that are different because they think they’re offspring are “special” too. A delusional lot, for sure.

  11. Lily says

Congrats ash and pete…but are ya kidding me? Bronx Mowgli? come on… I don’t have a problem with Honor or Harlow and I love unique names but what?!?!

BTW phnxgirl that’s cool you mentioned joshua and ryan ’cause my brother’s name is joshua ryan

  12. Squeak says

Yes, Bronx Wentz, yuck. Mowgli, why? But as for other celeb baby names that have been dragged into the debate to slag off – can we just take Honor out of there? It is a traditional, old name.

  13. Niloofar says

BETH-they are too young and they haven’t enough
experience, it’s right , but I think ,at least, they should think
that they shouldn’t choose a name that people ridicoule
    it,
WHERE WERE JESSICA, JOE AND OTHERS WHEN THEY WANTED TO CHOOSE A NAME????

  14. says

First off the name does not flow well. But aside from that they are young parents and although it’s their child and they can name him whatever they please, I feel either their parents who are older or some other older relative or persons around them should have let them in on the fact that years down the road they may have regret giving their child such a name like this.
There is a child behind the name and that child who will grow up to be an adult in this world and I personally think that the name is just too out there.
    Just my opinion.

  15. Jen says

Bronx Wentz doesn’t roll off the tongue well…there’s my only complaint about the name. I actually think Mowgli is a neat middle name, I like the way it sounds. And about naming your children “normal” names? Great for you if you like them, I think most of them are boring though and would never name my kid either John, Mary, Nicholas, etc — purely because I could list tons of people I already know with those names.

  16. fallon says

I wonder if they will start putting a “the” in front of their son’s name. Instead of calling him “the baby”, they can just call him “the Bronx”. Perfect.

  17. phnxgirl says

It is a bad celebrity trend that I never intend to follow. My two sons are named Joshua and Ryan. Can’t get more simple then that.

They can name the next one Brooklyn Baloo.

that actually sounds not bad together

  19. ana says

I really dont think bronx is that weird or unusal of a name, its fine for a boy its just the second name that screws it up!

  20. Renee says

Next child for them should be named something like Houston Mufasa or something. But congrats to them anyway, at least they have a healty baby boy.

  21. Eli says

#28…exactly…who are these two?? IMO both are “flash in the pan” pop punk/emo-rock puppets who have no true talent! Both have someone (Joe Simpson) who knows how to dress them, market them & force them into the spotlight so they can earn daddy/daddy-in-law a fat healthy Manager’s paycheck!

  22. laila says

Congratulations to them and wish them all the best but I agree the names these celebrities are giving their kids just to be different are becomming downright comical. I feel sorry for their children who have to live with these ridiculous names. Kate your statement was funny too.

  23. marti says

This baby name business is getting so ridiculous. Why would anyone saddle their child with a name like Mowgli is beyond me. 🙂 It’s just stupid and sad for that kid ,as he grows up, and people ask him what his middle name is. 🙁

  24. Kate says

FYI – the author of Jungle Book – Kipling – made up the word “Mowgli” – look it up! Why not just the name the kid “Kick Me” and be done with it!

  25. Lauren says

Ugh…I really dislike the name! I figure they would choose something unique but this is just wrong! What’s wrong with simple names, like John or Nicholas?! Anyways, congratulations Ashlee and Pete!

  26. Freya says

If they used Bronx Simpson-Wentz it would break it up and not make it so bad. Mowgli isn’t that bad to me.

  27. Lurker says

    LOL@ #9 I hadn’t even realized that..but you’re right!
I also agree about the attention thing to a point. Something about her has just always rubbed me wrong. I know very little about him, but her..not that I know her personally of course..but I don’t know, I don’t trust her or something. I mean her sister acts dumb sometimes, which I guess grabs attention..but Ashlee always seems to me like she’s got something up her sleeve…JMO!

    But back to the baby!
Congratulations to both of them..but honestly though I don’t care much for “Bronx”, let’s face it, it could have been WAY worse.
Now, the Mowgli part is just DUMB, IMO. But hey, at least the kid won’t have to use that all the time. It’s only a middle name, right? I know I don’t go by my middle name, though sometimes my relatives still do. I just sign with an initial.

I agree though, there ought to be some sort of law or counseling these Hollywood parents should have to go through so they can truly reaIize what they’re doing to these babies just so they can try and stand out and be “unique”.
    They’re BABIES, not publicity opportunities!

  28. Nastaran says

maybe their baby, is look likes mowgli…!!!!!!
    or maybe he is mowgli…!!!!!!!

I LOVE ASH, BUT WHY DID SHE CHOOSE THIS NAME???

  29. Niloofar says

CONGRATS ASHLEE & PETE, I REALY WANT TO SEE
    BRONX.!!!!!!!

BUT, COME ON WHAT IS BRONX, TOOOOO STUPID, I
WANNA CRY FOR THIS POOR BABY, WITH HIS TOO
RIDICOLOUS NAME, I THINK THAT THESE KINDS OF
PARENTS JUST WANT TO CHOOSE THESE KINDS OF
NAMES JUST TO BECAME MORE FAMOUSE AND BE
SPECIAL, WHY THEY DON’T WANT TO CHOOSE A USUALL NAME FOR THEIR BABIES????
EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM SHOULD BE UNUSUALL?

I BET THAT THEY PUT SOME LETTERS NEXT EACHOTHER AND THEN CREATE A NAME, AND
AFTER THAT FOR BECOMING MORE UNUSUALL
THEY PUT A CHRACTER’S NAME , LIKE MOWGLI!!!!

  30. Kay says

Bronx Mowgli…come on…are they joking? They must be joking. That’s not his real name, they’re just kidding.

  31. Anon says

I would just like to point out (not that it makes it any better) that Mowgli is the character’s name in The Jungle Book…not just some weird made up ‘gremlin’ name. I’m not saying I like the name…just thought I’d point it out…

  32. BeccaJane says

Bronx?? Hmm…..ends in an ‘X’…..wonder if Brangelina will jump on that name for their next boy, haha!!

  33. Josie says

Personally I don’t care for either name. That’s just me. However, I do think that there is some kind of unspoken name rivalry or competition on Hollywood. Perhaps Ashlee and Pete decided that they needed to come up with something very unique (read: silly) in order to compete with Gwen’s Zuma?

#7 I agree. Mowgli sounds like a character from the Shire. A friend of Frodo’s perhaps? LOL

hi 2teens – I agree with you about how first and second names should sound complimentary with each other and not awkward when said together. Makes total sense. I just don’t think that all celebs think about the logistics of baby naming.

Kx5 has done a great job with naming her children. Both first and second names sounds harmonious with each other, so poetic, in my opinion 🙂

  34. Maggie says

I actually like some of the names others would consider odd (ie: Apple and Suri.) However, I must say Bronx Mowgli is the absolutely worst name!! Just horrible!

  35. Eli says

Ashlee and Pete are such publicity mongers. How freaking contrived can this name be…the initials BMW!!!

  36. ice says

Can we officially ban stupid names in Hollywood? First Zuma, now Bronx Mowgli. Add to that Pilot Inspecktor, Honor, Harlow, Apple etc

  37. 2teens says

I don’t have a problem with unique names, what bothers me is why these parents don’t think about how the first and last names sound together. Bronx Wentz does not sound good at all, it’s a short choppy name, it doesn’t flow, it just sounds awkward on the tongue. Mowgli Wentz sounds better, and if they were set on those particular names it would’ve made more sense for Bronx to be the middle name.
Another stupid one is Caleb Bice, it sounds like they named their son Kayla.

  38. Breezy says

I think I know what it is #1: They sit around and say “Gee, what’s the dumbest name you can think of and how can I embarrass my child” And once that dumb name comes to mind, that’s what they pick. Whatever happened to John or Mary?

  39. Just me says

I know this blog is going to be filled with comments about the baby’s name and I was trying to avoid it. BUT I CAN’T BECAUSE IT IS SO HORRIBLE!!!!!
Do celebs think about what it will be for their child later?
