ERs Mekhi Phifer and his fiancée Oni Souratha have welcomed their first child together.

Mekhi Thira Phifer was born in Los Angeles on Tuesday at 6:47 a.m., and weighed 5 lbs., 4 oz.

“We are really happy and excited,” the couple told People magazine. “He is beautiful.”

The boy joins Omikaye, the Mekhi’s 8-year-old son from a previous relationship.

The couple showed off their son’s green-themed nursery to some 200 friends – including Don Cheadle and others – at their baby shower earlier this month.

“This is just the start of the tribe,” Mekhi, 32, told People magazine at the shower. “I want to have four or five kids.”

I made a post a few days ago saying I agreed with yummy and tempany, waited days for the “your comment is awaiting moderation” thing to go away, and my posts have been deleted! I didn’t say anything that could possibly offend any fair minded person.

very well said yummy, i 100% agree. i myself am engaged to be married but i 100% respect that some people wish not to and i do not see that having children out of marriage is a bad thing, or that not being officially, legally married means you are not committed. finaly someone with some common sense and tolerance.

How many times does it have to be stated that couples can be in committed and loving relationships without taking part in some legal ceremony. Just because someone gets married does not mean that their children will have a better life. I myself do not believe in marriage and all the legality that it entails, but I can see kids in my future. Does that mean that me or my partner will love our kids any less or treat them any differently? Of course not. And no, I do not believe that not being married leads to the moral decline of people. I have morals and will instill them in my children. I just do not believe that because our government recognizes us as an official union that our lives will be better. And as far as religious purposes go, that is not part of my belief.

No, it isn’t time to get over it. These celebrities tend to have serial relationships and leaving children in their wake.

Isn’t it amazing that we can just exclaim happiness to people that have children, but yet no marriage. Sad….really
